Inspired by an unexpected gift from wonderful composer Gordon Crosse, Fenella Humphreys and Nicola Eimer’s February 2019 release on Stone Records is an intriguing new collection of Sonatinas.   Described on BBC Radio 3’s Record Review as an ‘absolutely exquisite album’ and praised for the artists’ ‘lightness and quicksilver touch’, and ‘incredible tenderness’, this new release presents exceptional works by Jean Sibelius, Lennox Berkeley, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, William Alwyn, Gordon Crosse and Jean Françaix.   In addition to these works a number of other Sonatinas can be included in programming, such as those by Schubert and Dvorak.  The duo recommends the following programmes, although other combinations are available:

FRANCAIX: Sonatina
SCHUBERT: Violin Sonata in G minor ‘Sonatina’ D.408
SIBELIUS: Five Pieces for Violin and Piano Op. 81

GERSHWIN arr.HEIFETZ: Three Preludes
